AAU, Oct. 21: In the golden October with osmanthus perfume pervading, AAU is immersed in the solemn holiday atmosphere of happiness and harmony. On the morning of October 20, AAU’s 80^th Anniversary Celebration was held solemnly in our track and field sports ground. Leaders, friends, representatives of AAU’s alumni from different walks of life and tens of thousands of teaching staff and students got together to celebrate such a grand ceremony.

Provincial Governor Wang Sanyun wrote the inscription of “writing research paper in the field and forest, and cultivating talents in Anhui Province” to express his congratulation on AAU’s 80^th anniversary and his sincere hope in AAU’s development and serving “Three Things Related to Agriculture”. Vice Secretary Wang Mingfang of CCP Committee of Anhui Province, Vice Dean Zhu Weifang of Standing Committee of Anhui People’s Congress, Vice Governor Xie Guangxiang of Anhui Province, Mz Zhang Xueping, Vice Chairman of Auhui CPPCC and the alumnus of AAU, Mr. Cheng Yi, Secretary of CPC Anhui Educational Committee and Director of Anhui Educational Department, were seated in the front of rostrum. Among those in the front seats were Mr. Xu Youfang, an alumnus of AAU, who was the former Minister of Ministry of Forestry and former Party Secretary and Vice Chairman of People’s Congress of Heilongjiang Province, Mr. Zhang Jingwu, an Old Red Army man and former Vice Party Secretary of AAU, Mz Jiang Zehui, who was Vice Dean of Human Resources Committee of CPPCC, Co-chairman of Board of International Network for Bamboo and Rattan and former Party Secretary and President of AAU, Academician Li Jiayang, Vice Dean of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mr. Liu Fengtai, Dean of Teaching Evaluation Center of Higher Education of Ministry of Education, Mz Shi Yunyu, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of USTC, Mr. Fang Jingyun, also an alumnus of AAU and the Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of Beijing University, Mr. Gai Junyi, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor of Nanjing Agricultural University, President Zheng Xiaobo of Nanjing Agricultural University, Major General Zhang Meishan, Vice President of Artillery Institute of PLA, Mr. Feng Jianhua, the former Chief Procurator of Anhui Procuratorate, Vice Political Commissar Wan Gaochao of Electronic Engineering Institute of PLA, Mr. Shao Guohe, an alumnus of AAU and Assistant of Ahui Provincial Governor, Qian Keming, an alumnus of AAU and Dean of Market Information Department of Ministry of Agriculture, Vice Dean of Political Research Office of CCP Committee of Anhui Province, President Xu Zongwei of Hefei University of Industry, Vice Party Secretary Xiong Jianhui of Hefei Municipal Committee, Vice President Zhu Jun of Zhejiang University, Party Secretary Li Zhongyun of Huazhong Agricultural University, Vice Party Secretary Lu Ming of USTC, Vice Party Secretary Zhang Dongjun of China Agricultural University, President Huang Dekuan of Anhui University, Party Secretary Yunrongbuzhamusu of Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, President Zhang Huaiyun of Central South University of Forestry and Technology, President Huang Lusheng of Jiangxi Agricultural University, President Wang Yanling of Henan Agricultural University and so on. Leaders of related provincial departments, leaders form some cities, counties (Districts), and other colleges and universities in or out of Anhui Province, representatives of alumni all over the country, friends of all walks of life, AAU’s current leaders and retired leaders, and over 10,000 teachers and students attended this grand ceremony.

Party Secretary Lu Shenzhen of AAU hosted the ceremony, which started in the solemn national anthem, and President and Professor Wan Xiaochun delivered a welcome speech.

Ministry of Education, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Science and Technology, National Forestry Bureau, All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives, CCP Committee of Anhui Province and Anhui Provincial Government, CPC Anhui Provincial Education Committee, Anhui Educational Department, related research institutes, Social Organizations and alumni all over the world sent congratulatory letters and telegraphs. Dean Liu Fengtao read the congratulatory letter of Ministry of Education and Dean Qian Keming read that from Ministry of Agriculture. Vice Minister Yuan Guiren of Ministry of Education, Vice Minister Du Zhanyuan of Ministry of Science and Technology, Director Jia Zhibang of National Bureau of Forestry etc, sent their congratulatory letters. Those who also sent their congratulatory letters or telegraphs are Zhejiang University, USTC, China Agricultural University, Nanjing Agricultural University, Huazhong Agricultural University, Hefei University of Industry, Anhui University, Hampshire College in America and so on.

Vice Governor Xie Guangxiang of Anhui Province, entrusted by Vice Party Secretary Wang Mingfang, on behalf of Anhui CPC Party Committee and Anhui Government, delivered an important speech at the ceremony to show their warm-heartedly congratulations to AAU’s teachers and students. He also pointed out that AAU, as one of the first colleges in Anhui Province which had developed with our nation through 80 year, has walked onto the characteristic Dabieshan Road to develop local economy, enrich people and strengthen the university with education interactively, to develop AAU through strict university-running and paying attention to development connotation, and made outstanding contributions to Anhui’s development of society and economy by cultivating a lot of excellent talents in agricultural science and technology, education and management. He stressed that, as the only key agricultural university of Anhui, AAU undertook important missions in developing modern agriculture and speeding Anhui’s rising, which was also the expectation of CPPCC of Anhui Province and Anhui Provincial Government. He also demanded that AAU should take the 80^th anniversary as a new start point, keep her foothold on Anhui and gear her work to Three Things Related to Agriculture, carry out scientific development view, develop tradition, give full play to AAU’s advantages, thus to make greater contributions in promoting scientific development and deepening Anhui’s rising.

In his speech, Mr. Cheng Yi, Secretary of CPC Anhui Educational Committee and Director of Anhui Educational Department, pointed out that AAU’s eighty years was the time of inheritance, creation and development. AAU, aiming at running an university which meets people’s satisfaction, gained substantial achievements in university running and made beneficial explorations and great contributions to the cause of Anhui’s higher education, through fully implementing scientific development view and our Party’s educational policy, and persisting in developing both of its connotation and extension with more emphasis on its connotation. He expected that AAU should deepen reform of teaching and education and reform of administration system continuously, and try to cultivate high-quality talents with social responsibility and creativity; AAU also should give full play to her advantage and her features to promote AAU’s scientific, unification, continuous and harmonious development.

President Zheng Xiaobo of Nanjing Agricultural University, on behalf of other universities, delivered a speech, in which he first praised highly of AAU’s achievements in reform and development, and then hoped that all universities could connect closely and cooperate further in discipline construction, talent cultivation, scientific innovation and other fields to develop together.

Mz Jiang Zehui, who was Vice Dean of Human Resources Committee of CPPCC, Co-chairman of Board of International Network for Bamboo and Rattan, and the former Party Secretary and President of AAU, also delivered a speech in which she recalled affectionately her forty-two years’ life, study and work in AAU, and she also expressed her heartfelt pleasure and pride for AAU’s great achievements, and her confidence in AAU’s beautiful future. She expected that AAU could keep paces with times and make persistent efforts to deepen her development, and cultivate more excellent talents for the cause of Three Thing Related to Agriculture, gain more new scientific research achievements and make greater contributions to the construction of new socialist countryside.

Academician Li Jiayang, Vice Dean of Chinese Academy of Sciences, on behalf of all the alumni, expressed his deep blessing to his alma mater’s 80^th anniversary and heartfelt gratitude to AAU’s cultivation. He pointed out that, as an alumnus, his heart was always joined with his alma mater wherever he was, and when he was making more contributions to our motherland in his position, he was also doing his best to make AAU more well-known. He said he would pay attention to AAU’s development as ever and try his best to promote AAU’s development through supporting and participating in AAU’s construction.

President Wan Xiaochun, on behalf of all the teaching staff and students, expressed his sincere gratitude and warm welcome to leaders, guests and alumni. He retrospect AAU’s eighty years’ journey of hardships, efforts and great achievements. He stressed that, under new circumstances and the leadership of CPC Anhui Educational Committee and Anhui Educational Department, AAU would persist in the orientation of running a socialist university, try to meet the new circumstances and requirements of Anhui’s science development and fast rising, accelerate the construction of an advanced multi-discipline teaching and researching university in China, try to cultivate more excellent qualified talents, enhance scientific innovation to make greater contributions to promote social and economic development and Anhui’s rising.
